Who we are

Holiday Nerd is a passion project created by people who genuinely love travel and want to help others get the very best from it. We’re only just getting started, so we’ll be building up guides, tips, and sharing more of our nerdy insights over the coming months.

Editorial, Transparency & Ethics Policy

We are committed to transparency, editorial independence, and accuracy. This policy explains how our content is funded, produced, reviewed, and maintained.

Affiliate Links & Funding

As we built out the site we may use affiliate or referral links. Where these are used, they are clearly identified with an asterisk (*).

The use of these links does not influence our editorial judgment, product selections, rankings, or opinions. We only recommend products and services we believe may be genuinely useful or relevant to our readers.

Editorial Independence

All editorial decisions are made independently. Advertisers, affiliate partners, sponsors, or other commercial parties have no control over our content, conclusions, or recommendations.

We do not accept payment in exchange for favourable coverage, reviews, or inclusion.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

We use artificial intelligence tools responsibly and in a limited capacity to assist with:

  • Proofreading
  • Improving clarity and structure
  • Redrafting language without altering meaning
  • Generating imagery (where we don’t have images ourselves cannot get royalty free imagery)

AI is never used to:

  • Generate original content
  • Change matters of substance, opinion, or judgement
  • Research, source, or verify factual information

Accuracy & Reliability of Information

We make every reasonable effort to ensure that information published on this site is accurate, current, and reliable at the time of publication. However, information can change, and errors may occasionally occur.

To support transparency:

  • Articles clearly display the date they were last updated
  • Readers are encouraged to independently verify information, particularly where it may affect financial, legal, health, or other important decisions

While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all content will always be complete or up to date, and we cannot be held liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on information published on this site.

Sources & Research Standards

Where appropriate, we draw on reputable sources, including official publications, expert commentary, first-hand experience, and publicly available data. We aim to avoid speculation and do not knowingly present unverified claims as fact.

Opinions & Reviews

Some content on this website reflects personal opinion, analysis, or experience, including reviews and commentary. Opinion-based content is clearly distinguishable from factual reporting and should be interpreted as such.

No Professional Advice

Content on this website is provided for general information purposes only and does not constitute professional, legal, financial, or medical advice. Readers should seek appropriate professional advice before acting on any information contained on this site.

Why Don’t We Include Hotel and Restaurant Recommendations?

We consciously choose not to recommend hotels and restaurants — with the rare exception of places that we genuinely consider a “must-do”.

There are several reasons for this.

First, accommodation and food are highly personal choices. One person’s experience can differ greatly from another’s, often depending on individual tastes, expectations, and budget. We aim to remain as objective and unbiased as possible, and these categories are particularly influenced by personal preference.

Second, the sheer number of options makes it impossible to provide fair and comprehensive recommendations. While we have visited most of the places we suggest (with the occasional exception), we simply cannot stay at — or dine in — multiple properties in every destination. Our guides are written for a broad audience, covering everything from budget-conscious travel to luxury experiences, and we don’t want to unduly influence decisions in such a subjective area.

Third, hotels and restaurants change constantly. They open, close, change ownership, or alter their standards and offering. Even if a place is still operating, a better alternative may have opened since we last visited. Unlike landmarks or experiences, which tend to be relatively stable over time, accommodation and dining scenes evolve quickly — making it far harder to keep recommendations current and genuinely useful.

Finally, we want to stick to our lane. The world is vast, and we cannot cover everything in depth. Where others have deeper expertise — particularly when it comes to hotels and dining — we prefer to link to trusted sources. Accommodation recommendations are already well covered by individual reviewers, dedicated review platforms, social media creators, and the travel sections of major newspapers and magazines (though we do encourage readers to consider our caveats in our guide to booking hotels).

Our goal is to help you make informed choices — not to narrow them.
